Aviv HaTorah Synagogue & Yeshiva

2024  |  Jerusalem Blvd, Yafo

The work involved the extensive renovation and expansion of an existing building on Jerusalem Boulevard, Yafo, functioning as an active synagogue, with the addition of study and learning spaces as part of the growth of the community and its activities. The building included underused areas and sections in poor condition, which were re-planned in order to utilize the space more efficiently and respond to the daily needs of prayer, study, and community use.

The design included a significant reorganization of the internal layout and the creation of a flexible functional system, allowing the dining and kitchen areas to connect with the study space through a dynamic partition and transform into a single large space when required for community events. As part of the works, a protected space was added to the courtyard, structural adjustments were carried out, and the building underwent a comprehensive renewal.

The work was carried out in an active building and within a limited budget, and included architectural planning and interior design, ongoing coordination with the contractor and various suppliers, and supervision throughout the construction stages.

The work began with an analysis of the existing conditions of an active building, which included underutilized areas and spaces that had been connected over the years in an ad hoc and non-functional manner. Reviewing the drawings allowed for a clear understanding of the site’s potential and the need for a reorganization of the space. The entire design process was carried out in close coordination with the tender concessionaire and the community’s rabbi, and was developed in accordance with the needs, requests, and nature of the activities taking place on site.

This solution allows for quick changes in use and the transformation of the space into a continuous and expansive area for community activities.
